Positioning a Pet Community App
A feature-rich community app for pet owners — profiles, breeding matches, adoption, rescue, and a bookable service directory — was live in the app stores but socially invisible. We ran business discovery and built its pre-launch marketing positioning.
1The Challenge
The product did a lot, and that was the problem: with eight distinct feature areas and audiences ranging from professional breeders to families with a first kitten, the app had no clear leading story. Its social presence was effectively at zero, so positioning decisions made now would define the brand from its first public impression. Sensitive areas like breeding also required family-friendly framing.
2Our Approach
We mapped the full feature set and audience segments in a structured discovery phase, then defined the positioning hierarchy: community and care as the emotional core, with breeding matching, adoption, and the service directory as proof points rather than competing headlines. Five content pillars were defined — adoption stories, care tips, matching features, service discovery, and rescue cases — with the brand's playful paw-inspired wordplay woven through the voice. Each pillar was scoped for the market's four languages so launch content can address every community in its own words.
